WCS Students Participate in Dual Enrollment Opportunities

Wayne Christian School offers the opportunity for high school juniors and seniors to participate in dual enrollment through both the College at Southeastern (Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary) and Wayne Community College.

Through a partnership we have with the College at Southeastern, our students can opt to take up to 24 college credit hours in history and English courses online through the college while they are enrolled at WCS. Because these courses are taught from a Biblical worldview, they satisfy our requirements for graduation, and students have the opportunity to count these courses towards their high school graduation requirements as well earn college credit. For students who are planning to go to college after high school, this is a great way to get a jumpstart on college requirements.

WCS juniors and seniors can also opt to take tuition-free career/technical education (CTE) courses through Wayne Community College. Courses are offered in business, agriculture, welding, automotive, and several other fields. Students earn college credit for these courses, as well as elective credit towards their high school graduation.

Garrett Renfrow has been a student at WCS since kindergarten and will graduate this May with 21 college credits after opting to take dual enrollment courses.

Senior Garrett Renfrow started taking classes at Wayne Community College last year as a junior, and will graduate from high school with 7 college classes (21 credits) already completed. He says “The best part of dual enrollment to me is the ability to get a head start on your career path and saving the money you would have to spend if you were to wait and go do the 2 years after high school. It’s a lot more stress and something to stay on top of but it is well worth the trouble.” Garrett plans to continue attending WCC next year to complete an associate’s degree in agribusiness.

High school students who are interested in dual enrollment should talk to Mrs. Ford about registering for these courses.
