DECEMBER 3 -Tree Topper:  Dig out your favorite holiday hat,  headband, or tree topper to wear. 

DECEMBER 6 – Pick your favorite Christmas Movie – and dress as a Character – Make it fun – and get a group to dress up together.

DECEMBER 7- Deck the Halls: Bring out your favorite holiday accessories. Think jewelry, necklaces, garland, etc.

DECEMBER 8 -Shine Bright like a Light: Light up your wardrobe with holiday lights, glitter, tinsel, light-up necklaces, etc.

DECEMBER 9 – Dress to impress for Christmas – Christmas Ties and dress pants, and Dresses or skirts or dress pants and tops for the ladies. Christmas Chapel.

DECEMBER 10 –  Dream a Little Dream: School-appropriate Christmas pajamas and slippers.

DECEMBER 13 –  Let It, Snow!! Frozen attire or Look like Frosty

DECEMBER 14 – Dashing Through the Snow:  Dress like one of  Santa’s reindeer.

DECEMBER 15 -Wear Plaid – Flannel Shirts

Parents Welcome on Campus

As COVID cases in Wayne County continue to decrease, we have decided to open our campus buildings to parents again. Effective Monday, November 8, parents are welcome to enter our facilities for parties, morning drop-off, early pickups, or lunch with students.

A few reminders as we welcome you back to campus:

  • If you need to come into the building for any reason between the hours of 8:00 am-3:00 pm, please stop by the office to sign in and again to sign out when you leave. For safety reasons, we must have a record of all visitors on campus. You will also receive a visitor tag in the office. 
  • If you want to eat lunch with your child, you must stop by the office to sign in before you go to the gym for lunch.
  • Please do not drop off food for students at lunchtime. The office staff does not have time or space to manage food being dropped off for multiple students, and for safety reasons, we cannot allow students to meet you at your car to retrieve it.

Due to space constraints, parents will not be able to attend the upcoming Veteran’s Day Assembly or Christmas Chapel. We will be streaming both of these on our school Facebook page. 

Opportunities to Give

As we head into the winter months and the end of the year, several groups and clubs on campus on sponsoring opportunities to give back to our school and the community around us. See below for ways you can get involved in these opportunities.

Fruit Sale

Every fall, the WCS high school students do a fruit sale fundraiser to raise money for their spring class trips. This year, the freshmen and sophomores will be visiting the Creation Museum and Ark Encounter in Kentucky, the juniors will be going to Washington, DC, and the seniors will go to Disney World. The sale runs through November 15, and the fruit is scheduled to be delivered on December 3.

The fruit sale is a great way to help support our high school students, as the money raised by each student will be credited to his/her personal activity account. The fruit sale is provided by WCS, but all proceeds go directly to the students to be used for their trips. Please consider supporting one of our high school students by purchasing fruit. Operation Christmas Child

The Junior Beta Club is collecting items for Samaritan’s Purse: Operation Christmas Child.  We are asking for each grade level to collect a specific item for the boxes.  Items can be dropped off in the lobby of the elementary building as well as the middle school office.  Please turn in these items no later than November 9th.

Christmas Adopt a Child

The Junior Beta Club is also collecting money to Adopt A Child for Christmas through the FWB Children’s Home.  The approximate cost for one child is $75.  If you are able to donate $1.00, this will help Beta Club purchase gifts for children.  Beta Club members will purchase gifts, wrap gifts, and make the delivery to Stoney Creek Church.  Children will receive their gifts at a Christmas party at the end of November.  Please turn in all donations to your child’s homeroom teacher no later than November 17th.

Canned Food Drive

The SGA is hosting a canned food drive at the October 28 home football game, as well as through the month of December. From now through the end of the year, a donor at the Make a Difference Food Pantry is matching donations: $2 for every can donated, $3 for every dry item, and $5 for every boxed item. Donations to the food pantry will have a HUGE impact during this time!

Here is a pantry need list:

WCS Annual Fund

As WCS continues to experience rapid growth, we recognize the work needed to fulfill our mission through investments in curricular and co-curricular programs, facilities, and student life. Investments such as these allow us to best steward existing resources, all with an aim to deliver more for students, faculty, and staff. In the past, the annual fund has provided for projects such as Chromebooks in our classrooms, the outdoor picnic area, updated security and access systems, and new scoreboards for the athletic fields.

GoGuardian Installed on Chromebooks

Dear Parent or Guardian:

To help keep your child safer and more scholarly online, WCS has adopted online services provided by GoGuardian.

It may be helpful to know that over 10,000 other schools use GoGuardian to protect 5.5 million students across the world, and the Global Educator Institute has endorsed the GoGuardian Teacher product.

How are we using GoGuardian?

We have chosen the GoGuardian services to:

  • Help protect students against harmful and inappropriate online material
  • Help students stay “scholarly” and more focused when learning online
  • Help assess students’ progress towards class assignments
  • Facilitate communication between teachers and students during class time
  • Help staff intervene when students are facing personal issues and have trouble asking for help

When and how does GoGuardian operate?

GoGuardian’s web-based services operate on our school’s managed G Suite for Education Chrome accounts (i.e. when a student is logged into Chrome or a Chromebook with his/her school email address).

GoGuardian Admin provides oversight/management of sites that students visit using their school-issued device. We receive notices of sites that students visit that contain certain key words, as well as notice of browser searches for keywords, even if the student is unable to access any sites containing the searched information.

What are the school’s responsibilities?

WCS selected GoGuardian services to help our students stay safer and more scholarly online. We will work with students during class time to help teach them digital responsibility and safety. Additionally, we will train teachers about how to operate GoGuardian and about our policies and procedures to help protect student privacy.

What are my parental/guardian and child’s responsibilities?

We ask that students use their school-managed Google accounts and school-managed devices for educational purposes within the boundaries of WCS guidelines as outlined in our family handbook. School-issued Chromebooks are the property of WCS and are monitored 24/7 for inappropriate use.

When a student is off-campus and on a personal device, parents are responsible for supervising internet access and usage. We encourage you to discuss rules for appropriate internet usage with your child and to reinforce lessons of digital citizenship and safety with him or her. 

How does GoGuardian help protect my child’s privacy?

To help your child remain scholarly and safe online, GoGuardian collects certain personally identifiable information about your child. GoGuardian has consulted with privacy experts, participates in privacy organizations, is a proud signatory of the Student Privacy Pledge, and has been awarded certifications by iKeepSafe for complying with both the Family Education Rights and Privacy Act and California student privacy laws. Help Needed

We have two projects coming up that we need some help completing:

Locker Assembly

We have 12 additional lockers arriving Wednesday for the middle school building. We need 4-5 parents who can come Wednesday afternoon to assemble the lockers. If you can help with this project, please contact Mr. Miranda at lmiranda@waynechristian.org.

Equipment Room Construction

We have a small building project in the equipment room in the gym. If you have construction experience and are willing to help out with this project, please contact Coach Fox at tommyfox@waynechrisitian.org.

Junior Leadership and Senior Institute

The Wayne Education Network, a program of the Wayne County Chamber of Commerce, is now accepting applications for the 2021-2022 Junior Leadership program and the 2021 Senior Institute. Interested students should complete an application (available below or in Mrs. Ford’s office) and turn it in to Mrs. Ford no later than September 15. DO NOT MAIL your application to the Chamber of Commerce; Mrs. Ford will deliver all applications from WCS.

New Additions to the Middle and High School Faculty

Our mission at Wayne Christian School is to partner with parents and churches in the education of children from a Biblical worldview. Because of this, it is a priority to put together a staff that loves God, loves students, and loves teaching. We are pleased to introduce the following faculty members who have been hired for the 2021-2022 school year.

Mark Gentry: High School Science

Mr. Gentry is a familiar face around WCS after subbing in many classrooms around campus this past school year. He will be joining us full-time next year as a member of the high school science faculty. Mr. Gentry and his wife are both graduates of WCS, and he is excited to be returning as a teacher. He holds a bachelor of science in biology from Mount Olive College and comes to us after a 20-year career at Grifols in Clayton, NC. Mr. Gentry says “What I am most looking forward to about working at WCS is being where I believe God has lead.  I believe God is at work in lives at WCS and I am thankful to be serving Him here!  I am grateful to be a part of the WCS team, to have an opportunity to minister to the students and to serve the families of WCS!”

Christie Lane: High School Math

Mrs. Lane graduated from East Carolina University with a mathematics teaching degree and comes to us after 13 years teaching high school math in local public schools. She says she is looking forward to a new adventure and making many new memories at Wayne Christian School while sharing her love for God with coworkers, students, and parents. She wants her students to know “I’m a wife, mom, and stepmom. I enjoy spending my time crafting, camping, and  spending time with my family and small group from church. I love teaching math and can’t wait to meet all my new students!!”

Matthew Leecy: Middle/High School Bible

Mr. Leecy moved to Goldsboro in the spring of 2021 when he married Britney O’Hara Leecy, WCS fourth-grade teacher. He will be joining the WCS faculty as a middle/high school Bible teacher. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Bible and Theology from Trinity College of Florida and says that he is looking forward to getting to know and minister to the students by the truth of God’s Word. When asked what he wants his students to know about him, he replied “I’d like my students to know that I’m from Kansas-home of the nations top college basketball program :)”

Billy Smith: Middle/High School Bible

Mr. Smith is a 2006 graduate of WCS and is most looking forward to the opportunity to be with students each and every day. Mr. Smith holds a Bachelor of Science in religion with minors in counseling and youth ministry from Liberty University. He has served as a youth pastor in Graham, NC, for the last 6 years.

Mr. Smith’s favorite Bible verse is I Timothy 1:12, and he wants the students “to know that I have three loves in my life: 1) Jesus, 2) My wife and daughter, and 3) Them.”

Mary Cait Thomas: High School English

Miss Thomas will be joining the WCS faculty as a high school English teacher. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English from Covenant College and desires to teach in a Christian school because “I believe that worldview is essential to everything. If I’m not allowed to teach with a Christian worldview, then I am not teaching the truth.”

Adam Thomas Hired as High School Assistant Principal

Our mission at Wayne Christian School is to partner with parents and churches in the education of children from a Biblical worldview. Because of this, it is a priority to put together a staff that loves God, loves students, and loves teaching. As WCS faces a time of growth, we are also growing the leadership team to help manage this change.

Mrs. Anderson, who has been activities coordinator and high school assistant principal for the last several years, is moving into a role as the Director of Co-Curricular Activities. In this role, she will oversee all activities for grades K-12.

Mr. Thomas

We have also hired Adam Thomas to fill the role of high school assistant principal. Mr. Thomas comes to us with 27 years of experience in Christian schools. He has previously served as a history teacher at Christ Presbyterian School, the head of school at Carolina Christian School, and the middle/high school principal at Zion Christian Academy. He holds a bachelor’s degree in history from King University and a Master of Arts in Educational Leadership from Trevecca Nazarene University.

In addition to his responsibilities as the high school assistant principal, Mr. Thomas will be teaching some high school history classes. He says that he is “looking forward to sharing Christ as a teacher and administrator with the students of Wayne Christian as I build relationships within the school community.” The one thing that he wants students to know about him is that he is committed to helping every student become who God has called them to be in this world.
