How can you help?
Why did you choose WCS for your children?
My wife and I wanted our children to get a good education while getting a biblical worldview education. We knew that WCS could offer that.
What has been your favorite part of your experience at WCS?
FAMILY! Every time we step foot on the WCS campus we feel surrounded by family. Teachers, faculty and staff makes themselves available and exemplifies Christ.
What would you share with other parents who are considering Christian education?
We have taught our children about God since birth. It is important to us to have educators who share the same values as we do. Even the best public schools by law are prohibited to reinforcing the values that we teach at home. WCS shares our same values.
Why did you choose WCS for your children?
Before the children started kindergarten, my husband and I discussed the different options for education. My husband had taught in the public school system for 11 years and 3 of those years were in our local school that our children would be going to. Things were just different. It was not the same learning environment that we had experienced years ago, so we visited other schools. When I walked into Wayne Christian I felt at home. As we walked down the hallway, the principal spoke to each child by name and there was a true sense of home and safety as all of their belongings hung on the pegs outside the classroom.
What has been your favorite part of your experience at WCS?
My favorite part of Wayne Christian would be the teachers and the teacher, parent involvement together. I have always wanted to be a part of my children’s lives (even when they don’t want me) and Wayne Christian encourages that and then helps to encourage independence as a child grows (for parents as well and the kids). I feel like the teachers care for the children and want to help them learn in a Christian environment.
What would you share with other parents who are considering Christian education?
Academics has always been an important goal for our children, but I would have never guessed the growth that we would receive from WCS as Christians. Of course there will always be good days and bad days, in anything, but I would, with all of my heart, recommend Wayne Christan to a new family that wants to belong to a larger family. Wayne Christian has truly been a blessing for our family.
Why did you choose WCS for your children?
We chose WCS because of the faith based education. With smaller class sizes, we decided our girls would fit well within the atmosphere of WCS.
What has been your favorite part of your experience at WCS?
Overall, our favorite part of WCS has been the teachers. With the personalized connections teachers make with our girls, Brianna and Emma have always felt they could go to any of their teachers for help.
What would you share with other parents who are considering Christian education?
Christian education allows students to learn more about Jesus within the curriculum being taught. Students are able to learn and practice Christian beliefs and values in the classroom that can be reinforced at home.
Why did you choose WCS for your children?
To provide them with not only a quality education but a smaller class size and most importantly create a Godly atmosphere to further instill Christian values
What has been your favorite part of your experience at WCS?
Everyone is always so warm and welcoming. All staff truly care for the children as a parent would. This is priceless for us working-full-time parents.
What would you share with other parents who are considering Christian education?
You are organized and try to do anything you can to help the students. You are always looking for ways to make the school better both academically and socially.
Why did you choose WCS for your children?
Being born and raised in Goldsboro, Wayne Christian School has always had a good reputation for providing an excellent, Christ-centered, education. When our daughter was born we knew we eventually wanted her at Wayne Christian, but decided while she was an infant that it would be best for her to stay with her grandparents. Due to an unexpected acute health issue with one of the grandparents, we found ourselves in a bind when she was 6 months old and we no longer had the option for her to stay home with grandparents. We knew that the only place we were comfortable and confident in was Wayne Christian, but we also knew there was a waitlist and our need was immediate. I will never forget deciding to go to the daycare that day on a hope and a prayer that they would have an opening somehow for our daughter. I was emotional and scared for the future. When I arrived I was able to meet with the director at the time, Martha O’Hara. She was a calming presence and I know that God put her in my path that day. Martha was amazingly able to make a spot for our daughter, and we became a part of the Wayne Christian family that next week. I don’t know if Martha realizes how grateful our family is for her! Fast forward to today, 9 years later, and our daughter has been blessed with an amazing teacher, Britney O’Hara. Britney is Martha’s daughter, and we have gotten the chance to know her over the years. That’s one of the things to love about WCS, it is like one big extended family!
What has been your favorite part of your experience at WCS?
We have so many favorite parts! A strong Bible-based curriculum that provides a top-notch education. The teachers, administrative team and entire faculty that truly feel like family to us. The friendships that we have built with other parents. The lifelong friendships that our daughter has built. The wide variety of sports programs. The open line of communication and transparency that is always consistent. The safety and security of the campus. The teacher to student ratios. The daily prayer that is led by Principal Miranda for the entire elementary school. We could continue the list! If we HAD to pick just one “experience” though, we would have to say Easter Chapel. Easter Chapel is an amazing thing that happens at WCS and it something special to be a part of.
What would you share with other parents who are considering Christian education?
You simply cannot go wrong in providing your child with a strong Christian education and foundation at Wayne Christian School. It is by far one of the best decisions that we have ever made for our daughter. If you are looking for academic excellence, character development, quality teachers and staff, quality athletic programs, open communication and a sense of family, then look no farther! They say it takes a village to raise a child, and we are truly thankful that Wayne Christian School is a part of our village!
Why did you choose WCS for your children?
We chose WCS back in the 2013-2014 school year for our first born who was an upcoming 1st grader. We had a family member that suggested it to us as she had attended during high school. We had an interview and tour soon after our initial call of interest to the school. We had toured other private schools but were unsettled and it was refreshing to know, without a doubt, when we walked out of Wayne Christian that it was the perfect school for our family! As we interviewed with the principal and met several teachers throughout the tour, the inviting family-like atmosphere was very apparent. We had the feeling of safety and security to know that our children would be loved in this setting while learning academics, experiencing a biblical foundation, and having role models of the kind of people God wanted us to be.
What has been your favorite part of your experience at WCS?
Our favorite element of experiencing WCS is the holistic and biblical worldview. The children are more than academic robots…. The teachers truly have a heart for children. They amplify grace, kindness, and love. They teach far more than what we think of as school. The saying “it takes a village” comes to mind because WCS is our village, and we are so very grateful for this amazing place with phenomenal teachers and staff guiding our children to be well rounded individuals.
What would you share with other parents who are considering Christian education?
As a family, we are all better people for being involved in this school. We have a kindergartener, a 5th grader, and an 8th grader at WCS. My husband and I have always agreed that our best parental decision of all time was enrolling our children at Wayne Christian!
What is the mayor’s youth council?
The Goldsboro Mayor’s Youth Council (GYC) is a group of high school students from all over Wayne County that are dedicated to serving their community through various service projects. In the past we have volunteered with Special Olympics, Senior Games, Salvation Army Hurricane Relief Teams and the Tim Tebow Night to Shine Special Needs Prom.
How long have you been involved in the council?
This will be my third year serving on the council. I previously served as Secretary for the 2019-2020 school year.
What made you interested in serving on the council?
I applied to GYC after hearing about the incredible opportunities it provided students to work with the Mayor and other amazing leaders in Wayne County, all with the common goal of giving back to a community that has given so much to us.
Why did you decide to run for chair?
I wanted to further my involvement with the organization and be able to incorporate some ideas I had into our plans for 2020-2021. I am beyond excited to work with the rest of the Executive Board and lead our team this year.
What are your goals/plans for the mayor’s youth council this year?
My main goal is to make the most of my final year with GYC (as safely as possible). I am currently proposing the idea of a Teen Mental Health Webinar that will be open to public, as well as providing virtual tutoring services and becoming penpals to residents at assisted living facilities.
Why did you choose WCS for your children?
As a graduate of WCS, I have first hand knowledge of the care and personal attention of the faculty and staff. It means so much to a parent to feel their children are not only getting a great education, but are also truly cared about in a wonderful Christian atmosphere.
What has been your favorite part of your experience at WCS?
My favorite part of our experience at WCS is the genuine friendships and relationships we have built with teachers and fellow parents. WCS is truly a family!
